This clutch is hand-beaded by the women of the remote village of El Triunfo. This group of 18 women call themselves Sanik which means ants in the Maya language of Kaqchikel. Just like ants, they work together to build amazing things.
One side is thoughtfully beaded and the other is a black fabric woven on a back-strap loom. Alyssa, founder of Hiptipico, works closely with Juana, the group founder, to help calculate a competitive and fair wage to support their families and empower each woman.
